USJ Explores New Collaboration Opportunities with Hainan Tropical Ocean University

The University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) recently welcomed Zhang Guochen – Director of Office of International Exchanges & Cooperation, Huang Hai – Dean of School of Fisheries and Life Sciences and Liang Lin – Admin Officer of Office of International Exchanges & Cooperation from Hainan Tropical Ocean University, China, for discussions on strengthening academic and research collaboration. The meeting focused on opportunities in marine sciences, aquaculture, and ecology, with particular interest in sea cucumber and pearl culture, oyster tourism, and advanced aquaculture technologies. Both institutions explored avenues for joint research, international publications, and academic exchanges for staff and students.

The discussions also covered the development of postgraduate programmes, short-term training opportunities, and collaborative supervision of postgraduate students. A key highlight was the proposal to offer postgraduate students six-month industry internships in leading Chinese companies, providing valuable international exposure and practical experience. The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to advancing a long-term partnership that will foster innovation, research excellence, and global engagement.
