A delegation of 46 students from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura participated in the 2026 Spring Language and Cultural Program at Zhejiang Shuren University, Hangzhou, China, from 28 May to 08 June 2026. The program was coordinated by Prof. R. N. Weerasinghe, Ms. P. Gayathri, and Ms. H. H. M. P.
Madhusanka.
Conducted under the Memorandum of Understanding between the two universities, the programme offered students a unique opportunity to enhance their understanding of Chinese language, culture, education, technology, and business practices. Through lectures, workshops, cultural activities, and institutional visits, participants gained valuable international exposure while developing intercultural competencies and global perspectives. The programme also contributed significantly to strengthening people-to-people connections and promoting mutual understanding between Sri Lankan and Chinese students.

Special attention was given to the proposed Silk Road Academy, which is expected to create new opportunities for industry engagement, innovation, and collaborative research. Both universities also explored the possibility of introducing a student credit-transfer programme, enabling USJ students to pursue a semester of study in China while earning credits towards their degree programmes. The successful completion of the programme marked another important milestone in the growing relationship between the two institutions and reaffirmed their shared commitment to internationalization and academic excellence.
