Academic Delegation from Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, India

On 26th August 2024, a delegation visit from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Dhanbad, India to explore the potential avenues for a significant academic and research collaboration. Dr. Tanmoy Maity – Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering and the Associate Dean of international Relations and Alumni Affairs, and Mr. Mritunjay Sharma – Assistant Registrar of international Relations and Alumni Affairs of the Indian Institute of Technology participated in the event as delegates. They were embraced by Dr. Nishan Dharmaweera, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Ruwini Dharamawardene, Director of the International Affairs Division, and the senior academic staff members of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

This prospective collaboration was focused on key areas including student exchanges, joint faculty research projects, and other academic initiatives. After thoroughly reviewing the Faculty of Engineering’s disciplines, the delegates have identified strong synergies with their own departments, particularly in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Computer Engineering. During their visit, the IIT(ISM) team engaged with faculty members to discuss the specifics of these collaborative opportunities and interacted with the undergraduate engineering students, providing insights into higher study possibilities at IIT(ISM), Dhanbad. All the heads of the departments of the Faculty of Engineering including Dr. Ganga Samarasekara, Dr. Dulini Mudunkotuwa, Dr. Udaya Wijenayake, Dr. Uditha Wijewardhana, and Dr. Shyam Kularathna engaged in this fruitful discussion. This visit marks the beginning of what we hope will be a long-term, mutually beneficial partnership, fostering academic excellence and innovative research between both institutions.
