USJ Engages with RMIT University to Advance Sustainable Research Collaboration

Delegates from RMIT University, Australia, visited the University of Sri Jayewardenepura on 10 September 2026 to explore opportunities for further academic and research collaboration. The delegation comprised Dr. Spyros Schismenos, Lecturer in Humanitarian Engineering, and Dr. Santha Sumanasekara, Associate Dean, Academic Operations. The meeting focused on strengthening existing and prospective collaborations between RMIT University and the Faculties of Computing (FOC) and Engineering (FOE) of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

Discussions highlighted opportunities for joint academic, research, and knowledge-sharing initiatives. Particular attention was given to potential collaboration with RMIT University’s Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering. The discussions also explored a joint application to the Regional Challenge Research Initiative (RCRI) – Alpha Cohort. The meeting marked another step towards strengthening international collaboration between the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and RMIT University, Australia.
