MSc in Monitoring & Evaluation
Course Description: The Master of Science in Monitoring and Evaluation (MSc in M&E) provides knowledge and skills to effectively conduct, supervise, and teach monitoring and evaluation, adhering to relevant standards and ethics. The program offers specialized studies for working professionals and students seeking to gain knowledge and skills in monitoring and evaluation. It aims to enhance knowledge and develop the skills required to manage developmental evaluations.
Duration: Two years
Entry Requirements: A basic degree in any discipline, with at least one year’s work experience in project management/coordination and/or supervision, is required to gain entry to this program. Each application will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by the Course Coordinator with the help of the Advisory Panel. An interview, face-to-face or virtual, and a one-hour examination on comprehension and essay writing in English will be conducted if required.

MSc in Immunology
Course Description: The MSc in Immunology program is designed for graduates with a basic knowledge of Immunology. It provides an opportunity to further develop their knowledge and expertise in Immunology, Molecular Medicine, Allergy, and related fields. The program aims to make students well-rounded experts in Immunology. Upon successful completion of the program, students will gain knowledge in immunological mechanisms, autoimmunity, cancer immunology, integrated fields within Immunology, Molecular Medicine, and Allergy, as well as develop practical skills in molecular biology techniques and allergy diagnosis.
Duration: Two years
Entry Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in medicine (MBBS), Veterinary Science (BVSc), or Dentistry (BDS).
- BSc Special or Honors Degree.
- BSc General Degree with Immunology as a subject from a recognized university in Sri Lanka or overseas, provided that the overseas university is recognized by the University and/or University Grants Commission.

MPhil & PhD
Course Description: Every Department in the Faculty of Medical Sciences actively participates in the training of postgraduate research students for MPhil and PhD degrees. The subject areas cover Anatomy, Biochemistry, Food and Nutrition, Physiology, Parasitology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine, Clinical Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Medical Education, Family medicine, Health Science, Molecular medicine, and Immunology.
Duration:
- MPhil: Two years
- PhD: Three years
Entry Requirements (MPhil):
- MBBS with at least 2nd Class Lower Division in the final or relevant examination (SLQF 7; GPA 3 or above)
- BDS or BVSc with at least 2nd Class Lower Division (SLQF 6; GPA 3 or above)
- Any Special Degree recognized by the UGC in a relevant subject with at least 2nd Class Upper Division (SLQF 6; GPA 3.3 or above)
- MSc/MA/MD in a relevant subject discipline or any other postgraduate professional qualifications acceptable to the Board of Study
- MBBS (GPA 2.7-2.9) with a postgraduate Diploma (at least one year)
- One-year graduate standing with any degree (General) recognized by the UGC or professional qualifications recognized by the University Senate in relevant subjects which are acceptable to the Board of Study and pass in the qualifying examination.
Entry Requirements (PhD):
- Masters of Philosophy Degree.
- Master’s Degree.
- Bachelor’s Degree of Level 6 with a minimum GPA of 3 with or without a qualifying examination as determined by the University.
