A delegation from SEOWON University, Republic of Korea, visited the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) to explore opportunities for academic and research collaborations between the two universities. The meeting was held with the participation of Dr. Ruwini Dharmawardene, Director of Centre for International Affairs, who represented USJ. During the discussion, Dr. Ruwini highlighted the growing interest in Korean studies among Sri Lankan students and emphasized the importance of establishing a Korean Language Course at the University. She also noted the potential for introducing a postgraduate program related to Korean studies, considering the increasing demand for such academic offerings in Sri Lanka.
The Seowon University delegation expressed strong interest in developing joint academic programs, including student exchange programs, faculty exchange initiatives, and summer programs aimed at enhancing cross-cultural learning and academic collaboration. Furthermore, the delegation proposed possible collaborations in the field of Nursing, Management, particularly focusing on opportunities for English-speaking professors and lecturers from USJ to conduct teaching sessions for SEOWON University students in Health Sciences and Global Business Management.
Both parties had productive discussions on the structure and future direction of these collaborations. As a result, they mutually agreed to sign a Letter of Intent (LOI) as the first step towards establishing a formal partnership. The LOI will outline the key areas of cooperation and pave the way for signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the future to strengthen long-term academic ties between the two institutions. The meeting concluded on a positive note, reflecting a shared commitment to fostering international academic collaboration and creating meaningful educational opportunities for students and faculty members from both universities.
