The University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJP) proudly participated in the III International Buddhist Forum held in Elista, Republic of Kalmykia, Russia, from September 25th to 28th, 2025, under the theme “The Buddhist World in the New Millennium.” This prestigious international gathering brought together scholars, monks, and experts from around the globe to explore the contemporary relevance of Buddhism across cultural, philosophical, spiritual, and socio-economic dimensions. Representing USJP, a distinguished delegation presented a wide range of perspectives reflecting the university’s interdisciplinary strengths. Ven. Prof. Sarananda Thero spoke on “The Buddhist Culture: Literature, Art, and Architecture,” offering deep insights into the rich cultural heritage shaped by centuries of Buddhist influence. Ven. Prof. Wijithadhamma Thero, Ven. Dr. Chandasiri Thero, Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda, and Prof. Sunethra Thennakoon made valuable scholarly contributions to the conference through their published presentations. Additionally, Dr. Ruwini Dharamawardene, Director of the Centre for International Affairs at USJP, represented the university’s ongoing commitment to fostering global academic partnerships and promoting Buddhist studies at an international level. USJP’s active participation in this forum not only showcased the university’s academic and cultural contributions but also reinforced its role in the global dialogue on Buddhism’s role in the modern world.
